Keerai masiyal is a traditional South Indian dish made from mashed greens, primarily spinach or other leafy greens, along with spices and seasonings. It's a healthy and flavorful side dish that's typically served with rice.

1 1/2 tomatoes
3 tbsp moong dal
Few curry leaves
1 cup chopped spinach
4 tbsp ghee
1 tsp cumin
Salt to taste
1 tsp turmeric
4-5 dry red chilies
1 tbsp paraboiled raw rice
3 tbsp grated coconut
1 tbsp sambar podi
1. In a pressure cooker, combine the moong dal,turmeric powder and salt. Add enough water to moong dal. In same cooker, add the tomatoes in a separate vessel.
2. Pressure cook the mixture for about 2-3 whistles or until the moong dal are cooked and the tomatoes are soft.
3. Grind the coconut, raw rice and 2 or 3 red chilies and make it to a paste by adding little water and keep aside.
4. Heat ghee in a kadai, and add cumin seeds, 2 or 3 red chillies and few curry leaves.
5. Then peel the boiled tomato skin and add it into the kadai.
6. Cook for 5 mins, then add the chopped spinach.
7. Cook the spinach in medium flame, till the spinach is cooked well.
8. Now add 1 tbsp of ghee to it and cook the spinach.
9. Now add turmeric powder and salt and mix well.
10. Then add the grounded paste to the kadai and cook for 2 mins.
11. Then add sambar podi and mix well.
12. Now add the cooked moong dal and mix well.
13. Add 1 tbsp of ghee and cook for 2 mins.
Keerai masiyal can be served with rice and a dollop of ghee.This dish is not only delicious but also rich in nutrients due to the inclusion of leafy greens and lentils. Feel free to adjust the spices and seasonings according to your taste preferences.
